An Unexpected Place for Cheap Travel Deals

Everyone is always looking for cheap travel deals; the scour the ads in the paper looking for those all-inclusive vacations for as little money as possible. Unfortunately, what you get with most of those vacations are the same-old, same-old drinks-by-the-pool experience that you’ve done before.

For cheap travel deals and a vacation that will change your life, check out Cambodia. In Cambodia, not only will you get cheap travel deals, but you’ll also get an amazing cultural experience that you could never get at some resort. And when I say cheap travel deals, I mean it. Overnight accommodations start from only $4 US a night, so you can see where there is an opportunity to get a lot of traveling done for a little bit of money.

For tourist attractions, Cambodia is probably best known for the Angkor Wat temple; it is such a part of Cambodian culture and history that the temple actually appears on the Cambodian flag. Built in the 12 century CE for the Khmer Emperor Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat is the best preserved temple of all the sites at the Angkor Archaeological Park. You have several options for some cheap travel deals when visiting Angkor Wat. You can take a tour bus that visits 3 or 4 of the most popular sites within the Park, and costs range from $30-70 per day. You get the benefit of an air-conditioned bus, but all the tour buses stop at the same places, making them the most crowded. If you are in search of even cheaper travel deals, and don’t like being part of a large group, then you can hire a car with an English-speaking driver for about $25-50 per day. This gets cheaper if you’ve got a couple of people traveling with you – even at $50 per day, if you split it between 4 people, you’re only paying $12.50 a day for a car and driver.

If you want the absolute cheapest travel deals that you can find, it’s time to find some more creative modes of transportation. There are electric cars that will take you to certain areas of the site for only $2. Because of the cheap price, you might end up waiting a while for a ride, and they don’t run to some of the more remote temples, but they are definitely cheap.

There are no accommodations available at Angkor Wat, as it is a National Monument, but it lies only 5 km north of the city of Siem Reap. Once there, you have a choice of cheap travel deals, with the standard-type hotel room going for about $20-30 a night, and traditional Cambodian guest houses going for as low as $4, but usually around $6-15 a night. Just because you’re looking for cheap travel deals doesn’t mean you have to have a cheap vacation experience.
